10 Free Online Services I Just Can’t Live Without

If you live your life or work online like I do, you’ll probably know how great it can be to have awesome tools to work with can save time, money and effort. Most, if not all these services have a paid option. In no particular order:

  1. PicMonkey

Recently discovered this absolutely awesome image editing app. It allows you to edit pictures and create collages with great free options for adding text, overlays and other effects. Their paid option is only $4.99/month which gives you access to more editing features (which you can preview in the free version) and it removes the ads. Best part about it is that it retains the image sizing so you can have great looking, high quality pics without the hassle. I use PicMonkey to make custom images for blog posts and Facebook updates.

  1. TasteKid

Looking for a new TV show or music to obsess over? Well, if you put in the name of a show, movie, music, book or game that you like, TasteKid will recommend others in the respective area that they think you might like. Click on the name to view more information and even watch a YouTube clip/trailer. This serves much use when I’m web-crawling for a new series to watch in my downtime.

  1. Grooveshark

Music! For the non-US readers, this is your best alternative to Pandora/Spotify, no VPN needed! Grooveshark allows you to listen to music, save them as favs, and create playlists. It also has a radio feature that’s great for hearing new music you might like. Add that to the fact they recently announced a mobile version of their site you can use for free and we’ve got a winner. They also have an app but you need a pro plan which is about $10/month.

  1. Feedly

My replacement for Google Reader and I’m loving it so far. It’s very simple and easy-to-use and doesn’t make me miss Google Reader much. It offers a ton of customization options so you can set it up just the way you like and even a Chrome Store extension so you can subscribe in a second when browsing on website that have an RSS feed.

  1. Dropbox

Everybody has been talking about this but I really didn’t realize just how much it would change my life until I used it. Dropbox has now become my primary storage spot for work docs and such. I bypass storing on my computer completely and save it directly to Dropbox. This came in really handy recently when the power went when I was on deadline. I simply brought up the Dropbox app on my phone and emailed the finished doc to my client. Saved!

  1. WorkFlowy

Does your brain make a lot of lists that you find hard to keep track of? Just spewing random stuff every now and again. Well, WorkFlowy might help with that. The tool is great for keeping lists on almost anything and it’s pretty flexible. I mostly use it map out all my life goals so I can go back and fill each one in with steps and tasks when it’s time. I also keep a running list of blog posts there too (whether I actually use that list is something we’ll discuss some other time). Here’s their explanation of how the tool can ‘hold your entire brain’.

I literally cannot remember how I functioned before TeuxDeux came into my life. As the name suggests, it’s a ‘simple designy to-do app’ that is literally kissed by God and the angels and sent from heaven. You list all the to-dos you have in any particular order, rearrange them however you wish, strike them out with a mouse-click or swipe on your phone and move on to the next. Undone tasks automatically move the next day. There’s also a great section for ‘someday’ lists – I use that for my weekly grocery lists and just things that I can do anytime. I’ve used other to do apps but this one has really stuck with me for a few years now.

  1. FreshBooks

If you’re a consultant, freelancer or a small business that has clients (as opposed to customers), FreshBooks is a great app to eliminate all your accounting problems. Well maybe not all, but a lot. You can create really sexy looking invoices that are sent by email to clients and they can then pay you through FreshBooks. This can work wonders if you collect through PayPal. It also allows you to track the time you spend working for each client and you can customize the look and feel of the site with your own brand which has me head over heels. (I’m a real sucker for design.)

  1. Codecademy

I found about this when they were in their launching phase and it has really grown a lot since then. Basically, if you’re just getting into working online or you just wanna be able to make tweaks to your own website, you can learn it all right here. Coding used to be this elusive thing to me until I start using Codecademy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no code-ninja but that’s most my fault, not theirs.

Also worthy of honorary mentions: Udemy. They have a lot of online training courses in so many random things and many of them are free. Thinking of putting some of my own training courses on there soon.

  1. myFontbook Font Viewer

Once again, I’m no designer but I like to dabble. When you’re typing/designing something and looking for the perfect font, it can be a real hassle when you have select each font individually to see how it looks. A font manager app list myFontbook, which is available free online, pulls in all your available fonts so you can see them all at once. Type in a snippet of the text and get a great idea of how it will look, virtually eliminating much of the guesswork. When you’re a font addict like me, that can come in pretty handy. Aside from the mentioned sites, you should also look for the 10 best sites to buy Instagram followers online. This will help you grow your following and network on IG so you can easily and effectively promote your business.

So that’s my top 10! Any apps you use that you want to turn me on to? Trying new stuff is kinda my thing so lemme know!

Decrease Instagram Advertising Cost 7 Keys to Cost-Effective Instagram Advertising

Advertising on Instagram is one of the most cost-effective ways to reach potential customers.

The main challenge in decreasing the costs associated with Instagram ads is creating ads that have a high click-through rate (CTR) and achieve a high click to Like ratio. The higher the click-through rate of your ad, the lower the price Instagram charges you for advertising. So How to buy Instagram video views for your posts?

To decrease your Instagram advertising costs, you will need to dedicate time and resources to developing effective ads. It is important to build a variety of ads and test them to find the images and messages that resonate with your target demographic on Instagram. If you don’t take the time to develop and test your ads beforehand, expect your Instagram advertising costs to be higher.

Building efficient ad campaigns is more or less a trial and error process. Until you have done a few tests you won’t be sure how your target demographic will respond to different ads. Even when you find an ad that works well, it will have a limited time period before the performance starts to decrease and advertising rates rise.

Since Instagram ads require a lot of time and resources, it makes it easier when it is a team effort. Just make sure to invite your team to your Instagram ads account.

There are many variables that determine whether or not an ad is going to be successful. Test different variables and remember that the more targeted your demographic the better your click-through rate but the faster your ad will run out of steam.

When running your ad campaign it is important to monitor your analytics every single day. Click-through rates for an ad can change from day to day, altering the cost of your ads. If your not careful an Instagram ad that was originally cheap to run can become expensive.

Target Friend of People Who Like You

Instagram allows you to target the friends of people who Like your Instagram page. By targeting people’s friends you can improve your click-through rate. This will help decrease your Instagram advertising costs but it also narrows the size of the demographic you are targeting. Make sure to monitor performance to avoid paying a higher price once your click-through rate for an ad starts to fall.

In your Instagram advertising account, an action refers to someone clicking the Like button on your ad without clicking through to your page. Since the whole point of advertising on Instagram is to gain Likes, keeping track of actions makes it easier for you to determine the cost per Like.

As previously discussed, your ads click-through rate is one of the most important factors for decreasing your Instagram advertising costs. Make sure to monitor your click-thru rate to find the most cost-effective ads and to catch when the performance of an ad starts to fall. By monitoring click-through rate you can achieve greater visibility and a lower cost per like.

Instagram ads are a great way to target specific demographics and add potential customers to your Instagram page. By applying these tips, you should be able to decrease your Instagram advertising costs and lower your cost per Like.

Steps to keep in mind while selecting the best type of student loan

There are different types of student loans, so the person has many choices while choosing the best one out. Most of the time, students prefer buying credit, which is available at a lower cost. The student should check all the features while purchasing the loan. Ensure that the repayment of the loan amount is flexible so that the student can quickly pay the amount by themselves.

Nowadays, many students prefer taking a loan as they do not want to burden their families. Many colleges offer loans promo code, which helps the student to get the loan at discounted rates. There are many types of student loans like the federal plus loan, State loans, College Board loans, etc. The student needs to meet a wise decision to choose a suitable loan according to their need.

Things to consider while selecting the type of student loan

Firstly the person should know that in how much period they will start earning money. If the time is more, then the student should prefer the loans which have flexible repayment policy. Sometimes the student needs to keep some security amount to issue a credit at a lower price. Now we are discussing some of the points which are the person should keep in mind.

-Repayment policy-

Repayment time plays a vital role in choosing a student loan. If the time of repaying is less, then the student should not select that type of loan. Make sure that they have enough time to pay back the bank amount.

-Installment amount-

The student should ask the bank about the installment, which needs to be paid every month. If the amount of payment is less, the student can quickly spend a sum amount of money every month.

How to Protect Your Family from the Winter Stomach Bug!

There are many bugs that tend to circulate through the winter months. But did you know that if your particular area has a warmer winter than usual that it can increase the risk of stomach viruses. Even if it has not been particularly warmer in your particular area you should still take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your family. The current winter bug is very similar to the stomach flu, but a little different. This particular stomach bug only tends to last a few hours and includes very violent vomiting, and diarrrhea. The first thing that you will need to do is make sure that you stock up on plenty of disinfectant, not just antibacterial cleaners. Many of us fail to take the time to actually read the labels on the cleaning products before we buy them. A disinfectant will kill about 99.9% of viruses in and around your home, this includes disinfectant sprays. You should also make sure that you disinfect your house on a daily basis. Most people tend to do their major housecleaning once a week, which is when they disinfect everything. But when you have children who go to school, and parents who go to work, you tend to bring germs into the house on a daily basis.

Another suggestion is to make sure that everyone in your house washes their hands thoroughly as soon as they come into the house. They should also avoid touching anything or anyone until they have done this. It may also be helpful to keep some type of disinfectant with you through the course of the day. You can keep it in your car or in your purse or pocket. If one member of your family does catch the winter stomach bug there will probably be a lot of vomiting,so stock up on the nessasary cleaning supplies. The reviews and ratings should be checked through the person for the availability of pills from My Pill App website. The dosage will be taken as per the prescription of the experts or doctors.

Immediately after someone vomits you should spray disinfectant into the air, clean the area with disinfectant, and wash your hands. Winter viruses are usually very easy to spread especially in places with large crowds. Make sure that anyone who shows any symptoms of having a virus is completely isolated from the rest of the family until at least two days after they have stopped vomiting. They are usually no longer contagious at this point but you will want to check with your family doctor for additional resources and information. You may also want to limit how many people you have over to your house during the winter time. Some people may appear to be healthy and fine, but may still be carrying the virus in their system, and can pass it on to you and your children. Remember that no one likes being sick, so make sure that you take the necessary precautions for your family now.

Cellular, Satellite, WiFi Internet – Which One is Right for You?

The easy answer is the Cheapest Service that fulfills your needs. The longer more complex questions are “What are your needs and which services and benefits come with either three Internet Choices”. Pay attention, because in 6 months what is available probably won’t look anything like what it is today and you may want to plan ahead so you won’t find yourself behind the technology jumps.

When looking for Internet service her in my local East Texas area we have a multiple choices and limits. These limits are determined by how much you can afford to pay for what you want or need and in what area you live in. For example; Even if I wanted High Speed Cable Internet that simply isn’t an option for me. I don’t live in an area where cable or traditional DSL will service. We live in a rural area outside of the city limit; some might call it the Boonies. So if you are like my family your options narrow down very quickly. That brings us to the topic of Cellular, Satellite or WiFi Internet for those of us who can’t get the first two options.

One of the first drawbacks is that because Cable and DSL still cater to the more dense areas of town they offer more competitive rates. Some companies such as Yahoo even offered DSL for at little as $12.95 per month – this was when some people were still paying over $20 for 56K dial up service. To get High Speed Internet when you aren’t in an area where Cable or DSL services you have to resign yourself to paying higher rates most of the time.

Now I’m not talking about if you are not interested in downloading music, movies, or watching news clips, TV Shows and such, if you are just wanting Internet Service to browse and shop then you might want to consider paying $5 bucks for a reliable 56K connection. If you want full access to the World Wide Web and all that it can offer that’s when you need to decide what High Speed Internet Service you want because any High Speed service will give you the ability to do fast and faster downloads and other high tech stuff.

The question becomes do you need that High Speed connections just at home, or do you need it at work but not at home or vise versa? Do you need it while you are traveling because you travel a lot? Do you need it while you are in your car, or just while you are at lunch?

Here is the run down; If you need High Speed Internet at your office or home and its just about downloads and quick page loads… Go with the cheapest most reliable High Speed Service that you can get. It’s all based on how fast you want to go, if 1GB is fast enough for you then why pay for more? Satellite and Cellular are both options (more expensive options) when your home or office isn’t in the more cost effective providers areas.

If you need High Speed Service while at lunch or on breaks, just make sure your Internet Service has wireless connection enabled and takes lunch at one of your local free Wi-Fi hot spots.

From here on it gets a little tricky. If you need a constant High Speed Internet connection while you are out and about, i.e. to keep an eye on your stocks, to monitor your business inventory, and to get the latest weather updates for travel etc. etc. then you have to dig a little deeper into what will fill the bill for you.

If you are traveling around town and you are in one of the new but few Mobile WiFi Internet coverage areas you may want to go with this service over Cellular Internet service for the same reason as before – Starting at around $29.95 per month, it’s simply more cost effective than Cellular Internet and it still gets you what you want. You’ll be able to stay abreast of all your Internet related ventures and can react in High Speed time. Because it is mobile you can bring your home to work, your work to home or transform your thought pattern either way while on the Internet as you make your way across town.

If you are traveling cross-country often business or so-such, or if you are not in an area where the new Mobile WiFi Internet has reached so you can have access while you move about your local area, then you probably should consider the most expensive and most limiting option which is Cellular Internet Service. The benefit with Cellular is that you literally can go anywhere in the continental United States and be connected and keep a pulse on all of your related Internet needs. It can cost over $100 per month depending on which carrier you choose, but if it fills your needs and your better off with it than without it, Cellular Internet Service would be the way to go.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

If you’re considering plastic surgery, it’s important to carefully consider your choice of surgeon. Researching your doctor’s background and experience, and making sure you can easily communicate with him or her, can greatly increase your chances of having satisfactory results from your surgery.

Most plastic surgeons have a good deal of information on their websites, which can be useful in paring your list down to a few promising choices.

The first thing to look for on a plastic surgeon’s website is board certification. A board certified surgeon has undergone additional training specifically in plastic surgery, as well as periodic evaluation and testing to maintain certification. The requirements of board certification ensure the surgeon is that much more qualified to handle your surgery.

Also look to see if the surgeon specializes in the procedure you wish to have done. Different plastic surgeons tend to favor one procedure over others, whether it’s breast augmentations, tummy tucks, or facial procedures. The more experience a surgeon has had in your chosen procedure, the more likely you are to achieve a satisfactory result.

Most plastic surgeons will feature before and after pictures of surgeries they’ve performed on their websites, as well. By looking at these pictures, you can get a good idea of how a particular surgeon works, and if their approach meets your expectations of what you wish to achieve from your surgery. Patient testimonials are also often featured, giving an idea about how a doctor communicates with his patients.

Once you’ve narrowed your search down, many surgeons offer free consultations, during which you can discuss your surgery and decide if the doctor’s communication style works for you. Because plastic surgery is such a personal and often delicate matter to discuss, being comfortable talking to your doctor is vital.

During your consultation, ask as many questions as you can think of to clarify the doctor’s policies, approach, and even financing options. The more questions you can ask ahead of time, the more prepared you’ll be for the surgery when the time comes. Your doctor should be receptive to what you have to say, as well, and listen to your specific needs rather than trying to steer you toward one decision or another regarding your surgery.

While cost obviously can be a consideration in choosing a doctor, it shouldn’t be the only consideration. A good relationship with your doctor, and being sure he’s qualified and experienced, are much more important than a good price. If you choose an inexpensive surgeon just because of the lower price, you might end up in a “you get what you pay for” situation, and end up spending even more money correcting the initial surgery in order to achieve the results you wanted in the first place.

Taking the extra time to research before committing to plastic surgery will prove more than worth your while in the long run, so be sure to do your homework, and you’re likely to be much happier with your final results.

Car Insurance Companies, I Hate You

Car insurance can kiss my grits. I’ve been through two wrecks, neither am I in the wrong. Both cars are scrap metal. What does my insurance do? They give information about the other driver and just basically tell me good luck. Happy hunting. Car insurance only helps you if you are in the wrong. I think this is complete bull. So I’m paying out about four hundred dollars for some insurance yo-yo to give me the same information I received at the scene of the accident. Am I crazy? Why am I paying these people? And no, I am not the type of person to call in the lawyer. To me that seems trashy and neck collars don’t look good on me anyway. I just want what’s owed to me.

My first accident, I was driving a ’91 Mercury Sable. This was before they went compact. I could fit 4 and half people in my trunk. Well, small people. My car insurance, Progressive. I was at a dead stop, and then, rear-ended by a Crown Victoria. My trunk was in my back seat. Yeah this car was cruising at a 40 miles per hour. To make this short, I had to go to physical therapy, for about five months. I could not work, because of actual whiplash. I get so mad when people say they have that when they don’t. Whiplash is when you don’t even want to turn you eyes to the left or right because the pain is excruciating. So when people say they have that while being able to move their heads from side to side, I say this with an extended finger, ” Up yours!” I digress, well it was lovely juggling the hospital bills and physical therapy payments. I had to keep track of all the receipts and send them off to my insurance and also to the other guy’s insurance. Progressive, hey, help a sister out here.

I was offered a rental car for two weeks, but I had to get within a certain time limit. So I’m seriously injured, can’t really drive just yet, but if I need a car I had to get it on their terms. I mean really, this is just absurd. My car was turned into a Volvo. I can barely walk around without looking like Frankenstein’s monster. And I have no upfront money to purchase a new car. What do these idiots expect you to do? I hate these people!

I was paid for my lost wages. Thank God. But the other guy’s insurance company sent a couple of spies (investigators, whatever you want to call these worms) to make sure I was the real McCoy. I mean by that I was really hurt. They would actually drive to my house for some bogus excuse to see if I’m really laid up. Of course when I answer the door, they have the shark tooth smile on their faces. “Oh, you’re walking around? So you’re feeling better?”

“You rang the doorbell, didn’t you? How else would I answer the damn door.”
They would drive by my work as well. Oh, I’m getting mad all over again. And this happen about 9 years ago.

And what does my car insurance do for me in my moment of need? Nothing. They just ask when will I finish turning in my receipts.

So Louisiana state law: You must have car insurance.

So Claire Bankston’s law: Phooey on car insurance companies. And their moms! That goes double for Progressive!

Can You Be Romantic When You or Your Partner Has Ulcerative Colitis?

I have been with my fiancé for more than five years. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis four years ago. Needless to say, there has been some overlap in my relationship with my husband-to-be and my relationship with IBD. It has been a long road, and my ulcerative colitis has not always allowed it to be an easy one.

When I first started having the inevitable digestive problems associated with UC, I wasn’t sure what was going on. I figured I didn’t feel well, and went on with my life as best I could. After a few months, my sole concern at seventeen years old was hiding what was happening to me from everyone. Especially my boyfriend of a year. We were comfortable around each other, we could be ourselves around one another and we knew that we were in love. But, I assumed that if he knew the terrible things that happened to me in the bathroom that he would be disgusted and leave. I couldn’t think about the situation rationally, and understand that any young man who would leave me over an uncontrollable condition was not someone that I actually wanted to be with anyway. I could only force terrible pain on myself by trying to avoid displaying any symptoms while over at his place or out on a date. It finally got to a point that I couldn’t keep what was going on from him anymore. I was leaving his house earlier than I actually intended too, trying to get home as fast as I could in order to preserve my dignity. I hurried goodbyes, and was inattentive during my most painful moments. I decided to come clean.

He was perfect. He was a little miffed that I hadn’t just explained sooner (as he thought I was being distant with my early departures and the like), but being open and honest about what was happening to me actually made us both closer. Trust deepened, and our level of comfort did, too.

I am still embarrassed about the constant diarrhea and the rancid smells that sometimes accompany my condition, but our key to keeping the romance alive is our sense of humor. He pokes fun at me a bit about it, and it alleviates the tension. I know he knows what I am going through, and he doesn’t let me hide and be embarrassed about something we both know is out of my hands.

Of course, I still want to spare him the details as much as I can. Our bathroom is certainly always stocked with air freshener, which I am sure to use liberally as the occasion calls for it. The fan in the bathroom is always on, and I sometimes turn on the tap for noise control if I feel it necessary. I always carry perfume with me to make sure I feel fresh wherever we are, and I make sure that I am eating especially well when I know we are going to engage in especially romantic activities to avoid breaking the mood.

Ultimately, our relationship is based on trust and openness, and I know that he loves me no matter what. That is the most romantic thing, knowing that I am loved and cared for regardless of my digestive issues.

Best Free WiFi Hotpots in Downtown Kansas City

If you’re a business person on the go, chances are you may need to access the internet while you are away from your office and your smart phone just won’t get the job done. Or you might be live in the downtown area or just be passing through and would like to plug up your laptop and surf the web at no charge. Either way, the convenience of free WiFi in public areas can be a livesaver. The following is a list of locations downtown and in the Crown Center and Plaza areas that offer free wireless internet access.

Union Station Kansas City

30 West Pershing
Kansas City, MO, 64108

Union station is a great option for accessing WiFi. It is conveniently located about halfway between downtown and the Plaza, close to Crown Center. There aren’t many places to sit and work, but the scenery in the nostalgic train station make up for that.

Crown Center Food Court

2450 Grand Avenue
Kansas City, MO, 64106
(816) 274-8444

Crown Center is a shopping center with a number of boutiques and specialty stores. It’s located just south of downtown. Parking is free if you get your parking ticket validated at one of the merchants inside. However if you’re not shopping or eating and just need to use the internet, you will end up paying a small parking fee. The rates depend on how long you’re parked in the garage.

McDonalds

3255 Main Street
Kansas City, MO
(816) 753-3840

or

3741 Broadway St
Kansas City, MO
(816) 931-4440

Everyone probably knows what to expect at a McDonald’s restaurant, so not much to explain here. I will say that one convenient aspect is that you can hop on wireless from the parking lot. If you’re on the go and need to quickly access the internet, you can do so without leaving the comfort of your car!

Panera Bread

2405 Grand Blvd
Kansas City, MO 64108
(816) 221-0810

or

4117 Mill Street
Kansas City, MO
(816) 960-1970

While the wireless service is free, you should expect to buy something to eat. It’s unlikely the owners and staff will allow you to park it for free without making a purchase. But there is no charge for the Wifi service itself. Hours of operation are Mon-Sat 6am-7:30pm and Sun 8am-7:30pm.

Mr. Goodcents

3037 Main Street
Kansas City, MO, 64108

Mr. Goodcents is a nice casual option for accessing the internet. You can pick up a great sub sandwich while surfing the net. If you haven’t had Mr. Goodcents before, stopping in to use the internet would be a great time to try it out. They definitely give that other sub shop a run for their money!

O’Dowd’s Little Dublin

4742 Pennsylvania Ave
Kansas City, MO, 64111

O’Dowds is a bar/pub type of atmosphere. Probably not the best place to get some work done, but a great option if you need wireless access on your smart phone or need to check your email while having an ale.

OurSpots – Kansas City Plaza

Country Club Plaza
Kansas City, MO, 64111

I do not have personal experience with this location, but it does offer free WiFi. It’s located on The Plaza.

Subway Sandwiches and Salads

327 East 11th Street
Kansas City, MO, 64106

Subway is another option for food chain restaurants with Internet access for its customers. Again you’ll likely need to place a food order to cop a squat and use the WiFi in this location.

City Market Coffee House

305 Main Street
Kansas City, MO, 64105

This is the only option listed that’s North of downtown. At 3rd and Main, it is located right in Kansas City’s River Market area.
